In what is being considered as a terrorist incident, a car has crashed into a police van on the Champs Élysées in Paris.

The driver was immediately pulled from the billowing with smoke car, only for the authorities and pedestrians to find the man was armed. Officials in Paris have confirmed firstly the man was on a low-profile watch-list and has died in the collision.

At the initial moment of the crash it was believed to have been an accident. However, it was discovered in the car hand guns a kalashnikov rifle and gas canisters which seem to have prompted the vehicle to explode. Consequently, the officials are treating the incident a terrorist attack.

The situation is believed to be under control, with no police or civilians being injured.

France is under a state of emergency after being hit with several deadly terror attacks in the past few years.

Interior Minister Gérard Collomb has tweeted pictures of himself at the scene:

Translated as: “Once again our security forces have been targeted. The threat is extremely high.”
