Politics as we know it has been turned on its head. The controversially unexpected happened last year with Brexit followed by Trump. Theresa May is now trying to navigate through European negotiations, whilst Jeremy Corbyn’s disheveled act is only assisting his and the Labour Party’s declining support. The SNP are ready to go. Farage is holding hands in the White House. And the Lib Dem’s…ah the Lib Dem’s…It seems nobody and specifically those in Westminster has a clue where Britain is heading.
And yet, British Politics seems to have been handed a lifeline in an unexpected form. Beloved documentary maker and national treasure Louis Theroux has beknown to him found himself centre of an online petition to have him elected the next British Prime Minister following Theresa May’s General Election announcement this week.
Konbini who started the petition say, “He’s polite, noble, shy and yet socially smart, foppish and has floppy hair.” They continue describing him, “As one of the most understanding, smart and trusted men in the UK.”
The tongue-in-cheeky petition on change.org has received over 3,500 supporters and increasing.
The petition statement reads, “Mr Theroux (probably) has more skills to work out what is best for post-Brexit Britain than May, Farage and Corbyn combined. And if he fails, at least he can make a bloody good film about it (or become leader of the opposition and fire some pretty great questions around the Houses of Parliament).”
Theroux had his cinematic-debut with his documentary My Scientology Movie which is now available on Amazon Prime. As well as that, he has the impending release of three new BBC documentaries.
